Two Escape Serious Injury on Thin Ice

Fond du Lac, WI-On December 4, 2010, at 4:46 p.m. the Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to Lakeside Park for a report of two people in the water. Two adult men were operating motorcycles approximately 20 feet from shore when they entered the water. Both individuals were fortunate they area where they fell in was shallow.

The victims avoided tragedy; suffering only minor injuries and were able to walk to the shore. The fire department urges the public to exercise extreme caution when dealing with ice.  Although ice may appear to be solid on the surface, bodies of water need extremely cold weather for an extended period before it will be thick enough to support a person’s weight.
