Fond du Lac Fire Firefighters Battle House Fire

FOND DU LAC, WI – On Monday, November 21, 2014 at 8:10 a.m. the Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 180 Ledgeview Avenue. Upon arrival fire and smoke was venting through the windows. First in engine crew encountered heavy fire conditions in the front of the structure. Crews worked hard to control fire, but we're unable to and switched to a defensive attack.   The fire caused extensive damage to the 2-story wood frame structure.  Residents were out of the home at the time of the fire. Alliant Energy responded and secured utilities and restored all power except for the fire building.   The Red Cross also responded to assist the displaced residents as the house is uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage.  The FDL Humane Society assisted with a pet of the resident.  The Fond du Lac Police assisted with scene security, fire investigation and traffic control.    The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters will be canvassing the area later today distributing fire safety information to nearby residents.
