Five Acre Marsh Burns Closing Highway 45

Fond du Lac, WI:  On April 30, 2015 at 7:56 a.m. City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue was called to the scene of a brush fire located off Highway 45 in the Supple Marsh area. Van Dyne FD was on scene as initial reports believed the fire to be within their jurisdiction.  Both departments began

to extinguish the fire, but crews were hampered by strong winds and very dry brush.  The fire threatened to jump the highway which would have impacted the adjacent railway.   A MABAS Box Alarm was called to bring in additional resources from many neighboring departments.

The fire was brought under control within an hour. Fire crews stayed on the scene for 90 minutes to extinguish hot spots. Although the cause is undetermined, it was likely caused by careless use of smoking materials. There were no injuries.  The highway was closed down while fire crews

were working on the scene. The Fond du Lac Police Department assisted with traffic control.  Photos and videos are available for use on Twitter @fdlfire and on Facebook at fdlfire.
