Firefighters Participate in Red Shirt Fridays

Firefighters support local injured soldier

Since May 7, 2010 the Fond du Lac Fire Department, along with fire departments across Fond du Lac County, will be participating in the Red Shirts Friday program. This is a nationwide program that shows support for U.S. troops.

The mission of is to show support for servicemen and women. It is not a political organization.  The goal is to let servicemen and women know we support their sacrifice and we will not forget them and we will do this by wearing red shirts on every Friday.

The Fond du Lac Chiefs Association has given it a bit of different twist, with the money raised from the sale of the shirts going to the Josh Wege Fund. Wege is a Campbellsport area native who lost his lower legs as a result of a roadside explosion while serving in Afghanistan.

Campbellsport Fire Chief Jeff Lindsley says Josh plans to continue his military career. “When we met with him, it was extremely encouraging to see his attitude,” says Lindsley. “That young man wants to continue his military career, even though he has two prosthesis. Anything we can do to help him, I’m sure their family will definitely appreciate it.”

The public can buy these specially designed red shirts at Hoppers in Fond du Lac for $10 apiece.
