Fire Severely Damages Fond du Lac Businesses

Fond du Lac, WI: On Saturday December 3, 2016 at 6:20 a.m. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was dispatched to 68 John Street for a reported automobile on fire near the building. FDL Police arrived and advised auto and the building near where the car was parked was also on fire. The building is subdivided into several tenant spaces for commercial use. The fire extended up into the attic space and other hidden spaces above the ceiling. A MABAS Box Alarm was requested which brought back all off-duty FDLFR personnel and several neighboring fire departments. In addition, the American Red Cross was called to assist with firefighter rehab needs. Alliant Energy was called to secure gas and electrical service. FDL Police assisted with traffic control and scene management. Due to the close proximity to the nearby river the DNR was contacted due to the runoff from the fire scene into the river. FDLFR HAZMAT crews deployed booms into the river in two locations to help capture any contaminants that drained into the waterway.
The building sustained heavy fire, heat and water damage. All tenant spaces are uninhabitable. The fire is being investigated by FDL Police and FDL Fire investigators. There has been no determination as to the cause of the fire and it remains under investigation. There were no injuries.
