 Fire Destroys Three Story Abandoned Convent

 Fond du Lac, WI:  On June 5, 2015, at 7:23 p.m. FDLFR responded to a report of a fire at an abandoned convent at 101 E. Division Street. Upon arrival firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from the roof with heavy fire on the rear side of the structure. Fond du Lac fire crews were deployed to all sides of the structure with a defensive fire attack.  A MABAS Box Alarm to the third level was called to bring in Fond du Lac off-duty firefighters and area fire departments to assist with on-scene needs and station coverage.  

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue will be on scene for the remainder of the night to overhaul hot spots and continue fire watch. There is no known cause of the fire and investigators will be working tomorrow morning in an attempt to determine the cause.  Alliant Energy was called to the scene and secured electrical services. Police officers were on-scene and provided scene safety and assisted with initial fire investigation.  The Red Cross was on scene to provide assistance to the firefighters and officers. There were no injuries reported.
