Fond du Lac- On Wednesday July 14, 2010 at 8:45 p.m. Fond du Lac firefighters responded to a report a fire inside of Mercury Marine Plant #17 located at 545 W. Pioneer Road.  Upon arrival firefighters met plant employees who were in the process of evacuating workers from the building.  All employees were able to exit the building safely. The fire was contained to the area of origin, but caused significant damage.

Fire personnel and Mercury project managers completed systematic investigation of the plant to access for further hazards. Crews remained on the scene for an extended period while Mercury crews off-loaded 9,000 pounds of molten aluminum. “Mercury Marine’s staff worked extremely well assisting us mitigate a dangerous situation,” said Assistant Chief Steve Beer.

Fond du Lac Police blocked off Pioneer between Hickory and Military during the fire as a precaution.

Initial damage estimates from Mercury Marine staff was in excess of $100,000.
