Fire Damages Downtown Business, Injures One

Fond du Lac, WI – One resident was injured and a downtown business was damaged in an early morning fire on April 3, 2012 that threatened surrounding businesses before being contained more than eight hours later. The resident, who lived in an apartment above JJC Interiors in the three-story building, was treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation before being transported to the hospital.

When the Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 84 South Main Street at 1:54 a.m. today firefighters found smoke coming from the rear of the structure with the only resident already evacuated. They quickly recognized that the fire was growing at a rapid rate and threatening to spread into adjacent buildings.

The Fond du Lac Fire Department was assisted by 15 fire departments in the surrounding area. The Fond du Lac Police Department and Red Cross also responded to the scene for assistance. At approximately 10:30 a.m. the fire was declared under control. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire and amount of loss is not yet determined.
