June 8, 2013 Media Release #2 Extra Alarm Fire Destroys Downtown Fond du Lac Business Fond du Lac, WI:  On June 7, 2013 at 10:36 PM the Fond du Lac Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 109 North Main Street.  Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and fire on the first floor and second floors.  The fire was extinguished, but
not before it caused severe damage to the contents and structure.  There
were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire.  A firefighter was injured while fighting the fire and was taken to the hospital  for treatment.  One other person sustained minor smoke inhalation and was treated on the scene, but did not require transport.  “This fire could have been much worse if not for the quick
response of fire crews,” said Fire Chief Peter O’Leary.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but appears to have started on the lower level and spread to the second floor.  Fond du Lac Fire and Police investigators remain on scene
determining the cause of the fire.  The Fond du Lac Police Department also
assisted with scene security and traffic control.  Alliant Energy also
responded and secured utilities.  Several neighboring fire departments
assisted Fond du Lac  in extinguishing the fire.
